[appropriately witty title]

Hello!

Earlier today I received a little preview for the cover I’ve painted for a new children’s magazine: “Storytime”. This project has been fantastic to be involved with, the team over at Luma are an absolute delight and are trying to do something really quite special.

You can see some glimpses of the work going into these books here:

www.storytimemagazine.com/

I couldn’t recommend having a look highly enough. In all honestly I feel very much out of place, the caliber or the artists Luma have pulled together on this project is a little overwhelming, well worth having a dig through the preview site to see whats coming up in the first few issues.

I plan to post a little process gif of the cover I have done for issue 2 (It’s actually a wrap around, but the back hasn’t been posted yet so I can’t show it) as soon as I can cobble something together.

More updates soon!

-Alex

Hey guys,
I have to apologize, It’s been a very long while between posts. I am currently traveling, visiting my Wife’s family back in the States for the summer and have had limited access to a computer for a while. I have plenty of new sketch pages to share and some tidbits of news which I hope to have up by the end of the week, but in the mean time…
Ben is one of the most insanely talented blokes I am lucky enough to know and I couldn’t be more flattered to get a copy of his amazing debut issue of "Double +" including a kick ass illustration drawn by Ben in less than five minuets while eating a vegan cookie outside a closed coffee shop in Louisville.
If you haven’t seen his work before, check it out (and if you are going to SPX make a point of stopping by his booth and asking to see his pocket sketchbook, it’s jaw dropping).
I promise I’ll have some art updates soon,
All the best,
-Alex

My friend Alex is back in town and I got to nerd out and talk comics and process stuff. Here’s a parting gift.

I found an old travel water colour kit that I bought on a trip to Tokyo a lifetime ago, so I pretty much had to do some water colour studies to warm up this morning. First time I have used water colour in years… I am out of practice.

Also, some sketch pages from yesterday thrown in for good measure.

-Alex

I don’t normally share environment/layout sketch pages so I thought I should pop some up here, but no more sketch pages after this until I post some paint work I promise!

Also a lot of people have been asking for larger sketch page scans so I’m splitting the pages in half so they look larger on the dash. You can also open image in a new tab to see any sketch page I post a little larger if you really want to see how poor my line work is up close :)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

-Alex

Sneaky sketchpost before the weekend! Hope you have a great one!

Sketch post!

It’s a funny thing when you have been drawing/painting in a style that isn’t entirely your own for a while. A few days ago was the first time in months that I had chance to just sketch with out an ulterior motive and it felt very odd, almost like drawing with my left hand.

It’s taking a while but I am finally starting to feel more like myself when I doodle so I figured I would post a few of the sketch pages I’m not totally horrified to show others. Some times you have to just hack through a rut I guess, and the best way to move past something is to just put it out there.

More soon!

-Alex

Hey all!
Sorry it’s been so long between posts, I have had very little time for personal work since January and frankly I thought just posting more sketch pages would be something of a cop out.
The good news is I can share a little info about one of the books I have been contributing to: Catbug’s Treasure Book!
This is my cover for the book and I did some of the final interior art well as design and layout for much of the book. I can’t give too much detail yet, but the script is pretty damn hilarious/cute/straight up weird (as Catbug should be) and I’m very excited to get the final hardcover book in my hands this Summer.
More official info will be coming soon from Viz/Perfect Square, but in the mean time you can see the official blurb and get a discounted pre-order at our good old friend Amazon:

I will have more to post on personal work soon!
Cheers,
-Alex

Guys, guys, guys, I WROTE A BOOK! And Alex Wilson illustrated it, and it’s beautiful. It’s coming to a book store near you this summer so look forward to more details soon. Don’t worry, you’ll know the release is soon when it’s all that I’m talking about.

Oh! I had no Idea you were on Tumblr Christopher! Great job on the script, it’s a very funny read!

I don’t usually re-blog anything as a rule, especially my own work, but I love the collections that The Art of Animation put together and couldn’t be more flattered to be featured!

I highly recommend giving them a follow if you don’t already, they make the best inspiration posts.

Thank you!

-Alex

Warm up’s from yesterday. Every once in a while I like to draw a page ‘o’ Rosie, see if I can’t figure her character out a little more.
Hope your week has started well!
